TL;DR: Make a dark mode setting for the mobile apps
Implementing a well-designed, legible dark mode for mobile users in the You.com apps is table stakes. Dark mode enhances the user experience by reducing eye strain and conserving battery life. Many leading applications have already adopted dark mode, providing users with an option that aligns with modern usability standards. By incorporating a high-quality dark mode, You.com can stay competitive, attract more users, and address the growing demand for customizable interfaces. Dark mode is no longer just a preference; it is a necessity for comfort and usability in low-light situations. Prioritizing the development of great, legible dark mode is crucial for improving user satisfaction and overall app performance. Let's make You.com an even better place to explore the web, day or night.

Darrell Moore Currently the mobile app matches your system's appearance. If your mobile device is on dark mode, the app will be too. We'll make a note to consider adding the ability for a user to specifically set their appearance in the app. Thanks!

Funnily enough, about two days after I posted this request, I noticed that the app did change when I changed my system setting. I felt a little silly posting this after that, but then remembered that some apps I’ve used before also had an explicit setting to choose dark even when the system theme was light. I think it would still make a nice setting choice in the app. It was one that I thought would be there due to many other apps having an explicit button for it.
Maybe you could at least mention in settings that dark mode is controlled by system settings if you don’t want to make it a switch?
