From a user's perspective, pre-registering a wide variety of models regardless of total usage is, in itself, a good approach to expanding available options. Given that registering many model APIs doesn't particularly incur any additional costs, and comparing the current state to how You.com operated a year ago when it was actively offering a diverse range of models to broaden user choice it's clear that the policy has noticeably shifted.
Above all, what's most difficult to understand is why outdated models that are no longer being updated are still left in the model selection menu. What makes me suspect that simple negligence in model management may be the cause is this: one of the models that has been sitting in the selection menu for months now, llama-4, isn't even functioning properly. No matter how niche or non-mainstream a model may be, it's simply incomprehensible that a model still listed as an active service has been left unattended for months.
I understand that other policies may fall short in quality given the high cost and effort they require. However, in this particular case where the work involved doesn't demand a significant investment of time or effort I think it's entirely reasonable for consumers to question whether the company is truly doing its best for its customers.
